Excellence 2000 - known as E2K - is an innovative enrichment program developed as a method to teach math and science to gifted students. Open to qualified sixth through eighth graders, E2K was established at the Society for Excellence in Education, which also oversees the esteemed Israeli Arts and Science Academy. Carmel's Middle School science teacher Rhonda Ginsberg, who attended the program's intensive math and science training course in Israel, heads E2K at Carmel Academy and guides the students to use logic, analysis, creativity and team work to approach science and math problems. Our award-winning teams compete in national and international competitions as part of the program.
Carmel Academy's Genius Hour provides our Middle School students an hour each week to explore their own passions and encourage their creativity. This is an hour during which each student chooses what they are interested in learning about, choose how they will learn it and how they will share it with the community.
Middle School Electives
Each trimester, Carmel Academy/s Middle School students delve into topics such as drama, ceramics, dance, musical performance, digital film editing, comic book creation, creative writing and fitness training to name a few. The middle school elective courses meet weekly and culminate at the end of the trimester with a Electives Fair, at which students present a group project stemming from their studies.
Carmel Academy's Student Council teaches important lessons in leadership, cooperation and the inner workings of a democratic governing body. Made up of representatives from each of the Upper School grades, the student government, which includes five officers, meets weekly throughout the school year. Just a few of the group's long list of accomplishments include organizing school-wide spirit days and chesed (kindness) projects, and spearheading the annual Purim Carnival.
Angels & Prophets is Carmel Academy's Middle School band, playing Jewish rock music. The band members practice weekly and lead a Lower School gathering each Friday to usher in Shabbat with community song. Angels & Prophets also plays at all major school events and community concerts.
Carmel Academy is a private school for children of all Jewish affiliations, serving children from transitional kindergarten through 8th grade.
Carmel Academy is a recipient of UJA Greenwich, the United Jewish Federation of Greater Stamford, New Canaan and Darien, Federation for Jewish Philanthropy of Upper Fairfield County and The UJA Federation on New York.
