Lower School
Welcome to Carmel Academy’s Lower School. I am excited to share with you our rich environment designed to awaken the curiosity, intellect and problem solving capabillities of your child. The Carmel Academy Lower School provides a strong academic foundation of intellectual and creative pursuits with a focus on ongoing skill development. “Our faculty models it…our students live it” are words from our Mission Statement that come to life each day on our campus. Step into a classroom and feel our love of learning, passion for Jewish values and commitment to tikkun olam (betterment of the world) both near and far each and every day.

Carmel Academy’s Lower School provides a strong base in traditional subjects such as English language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, Hebrew, Torah studies, holidays and t’fillah (prayer), and also an extraordinarily rich integrated and transdisciplinary Jewish and general studies connection. The technology, physical education, chesed (acts of loving kindness) and arts programs are designed to provide a bridge among disciplines while serving as a focal point for a variety of learning activities.

Our Core Program Lower School Judaics studies and Hebrew programs are taught through a combination of classroom instruction and experiences that highlight the joy of Jewish learning. Inspiring a spiritual connection to the students’ Judaism is central in the elementary grades. A sense of celebration surrounds t’fillah (prayers), chagim (Jewish holidays), Torah (Bible) studies and Jewish history.

Our leadership, faculty and staff take seriously our responsibility to help our students become respectful and contributing members of the school family as well as the larger Jewish and global communities. The principals of derekh eretz (respectful and courteous behavior) are taught and modeled each day through our adoption of a research-based positive behavior system. Within our warm and nurturing environment, students are encouraged to strive for and attain high levels of achievement, independent thinking and, most importantly, ethical behavior.

B'shalom,
