Providing Alternative Learning Strategies (PALS)

PALS Learning Center

We know that not all students learn the same way or at the same pace. The PALS Learning Center at Carmel Academy is a dynamic resource for children, parents and educators, providing multiple direct student support services, as well as offering workshops and parent training.
The PALS Learning Center provides 1:1 support to Middle School students in the PALS program who may be struggling with an academic subject and/or social-emotional needs. The Center is an integral part of our team-based approach and offers the following student supports:
  • Executive functioning coaching
  • Adaptation/modification of class assignments, study guides and assessments
  • Curriculum design to meet the needs of each student's learning profile
  • Collaborate between the Learning Center specialist and a student’s teachers in how to present information in a manner that benefits students learning
  • Organization, note taking and writing skills
  • Pre-teaching for students who require more time and repetition
  • Address and practice academic self-advocacy skills
  • Reinforcement of skills acquired in related services such as speech and occupational therapy
